The morality cops are out in full force in San Clemente, where a business that sells products you find at Target–oils, lubes, lingerie–is being hassled from opening.
Perhaps foes of adult-oriented businesses are OK with corporate chains having similar items spread around their big-box stores but oppose the one-stop shopping Intimate Obsessions wants to bring to 309 North El Camino Real.
By the way, you may recall Intimate Obsessions' Dana Point location from our story last month about a 42-year-old lady accused of placing lingerie and other items her ex-boyfriend had gifted her into a pillowcase that was set on fire in front of the store.
Maybe San Clemente is opposing its very own Intimate Obsessions out of fire safety concerns?
Naw, that's total bullshit, this comes down to zoning regulations that prohibit “adult oriented businesses” from being within 1,000 feet of schools, churches and residences. Opponents have labeled Intimate Obsessions a “sex store” that is trying to open next to a family friendly Pizza Port restaurant, behind San Clemente Presbyterian Church and its school and near a residential building.
The backlash has been heard by City Hall, which is taking a good, hard look at the Intimate Obsessions' business license application. Store operators have responded by offering to confine sexually explicit material to 15 percent or less of its floor space with lingerie, stockings and specialty costumes occupying the bulk of the store. That's how xxx managed to open in downtown Fullerton:
But there's still that overtly sexy Intimate Obsessions name to contend with. To appease San Clementans' puritanical sensibilities, might we suggest Intimate Burlap Sacks?
