Inland Empire Weekly Goes “On Hiatus”

Inland Empire Weekly, a.k.a. IE Weekly is going “on hiatus,” according to the editor.

That was confirmed after the publisher for the alternative weekly newspaper that was launched in 2005 by some former OC Weeklings told our Mexican-in-Chief the issue out this week is their last one.

Here is a letter that Editor-in-Chief Evan Senn sent to writers Thursday:

Hello Writers,

We've decided to put IE Weekly on hiatus, this week's issue will be the last. Market conditions proved to be unsustainable for us here to continue.

That said, we still have our hugely successful publication, Culture, growing beyond belief. I welcome you to pitch us stories, concepts and ideas for Culture.

All my best,
Evan

Publisher Jeremy Zachary and his wife Sharla Delgado left OC Weekly's advertising department to start IE Weekly and cover Riverside and San Bernardino counties. Past IE Weekly editors-in-chief have included Rich Kane and Stacy Davies, who have been full-time section editors at OC Weekly and continue as valued contributors. IE Weekly ran our Editor-in-Chief Gustavo Arellano's ¡Ask a Mexican column!, and yours truly contributed a cover story once.

Senn tells us there's hope that the IE Weekly might return as an online-only enterprise in the future, but only when the market allows it. Here's to hoping that may happen…
