Ibrahim Yousef Battat, who was being held on $1 million bail, is scheduled to be arraigned June 27 in Westminster on felony attempted murder, felony elder abuse and sentencing enhancements for premeditation and deliberation and great bodily injury to an elder. A conviction could send him to state prison for 10 years to life.

It's unclear what prompted the attack. Battat and the elderly gentleman were patients and roommates at Fountain Valley Regional Medical Center, where the commotion in their room around 3:40 a.m. Wednesday caused nurses and a patient in the next room to rush in. A man identified as Battat was pulled off of the unidentified victim and restrained until Fountain Valley police officers arrived and arrested the alleged attacker.
