The beaches of Huntington and Newport have just reopened after being closed to humans since a shark spooked a lifeguard Thursday afternoon.

But an advisory remains in effect until about 3:30 p.m. warning swimmers to be cautious, a state beach representative says.
The area where you need to be cautious–well, more cautious than usual–is a mile south of Brookhurst Street to 56th Street in Newport Beach, and a mile north to Newland Street in Huntington Beach.
The closure was prompted by a 6-foot-8-inch shark bumping the surfboard of an off-duty lifeguard, lifting him about a foot out of the water.
If that happened to me, I would imagine lifting myself another two feet and running in place like a cartoon character for a few beats before exiting, stage right.
