Home is Where the Art Is

Catherine Ryan and Gary Weimberg's documentary about the century-old, second-largest private home in the United States moves as slowly as one of those weekend History Channel programs about America's castles—and it similarly reels you in with its descriptions of the architectural wonders and tales of the rich who once frolicked there. The 100-room Chateau Carolands in Hillsborough, California, has been in the grips of three wealthy and strong-willed women, and given its rise, near fall and recent renaissance, it's a wonder the joint is still standing at all.

As part of their Cinema Orange series, the Orange County Museum of Art and the Newport Beach Film Festival join forces to present screenings of films you may have missed at April's NBFF. Given the architecture and trimmings of the mansion on the screen, it's appropriate this film is screening in an art museum.

Three Women and a Chateau screens as part of the Cinema Orange series at Orange County Museum of Art, 850 San Clemente Dr., Newport Beach, (949) 759-1122. Thurs., June 8, 8:30 p.m. Free.
