With two full-length albums to their name, Melbourne quartet Hiatus Kaiyote have reached international attention, but they're still quite under the radar.. Their influences are familiar— neo-soul, electronica, jazz, R&B— but applied together, with the addition of lead singer-guitarist Nai Palm's strong vocals, and HK's sound is bold and other-worldly. The recent release of their album Choose Your Weapon is at the juncture of these various genres, and reveal's the group's affinity for passionate, almost melodramatic production, so you can imagine what Palm and company are capable of bringing to the stage. These new jazz kids on the block may be young, but with a Grammy nomination under their belt and a world tour in progress, it doesn't seem as though they'll stay a secret for long.
