Way to stick it, Henry. … Check out this Brodt, bro. … His opponents felt it when Brodt dealt it. … DAMN! I hate it when PR monkeys think up better puns that I do, as is the case with 68-year-old Henry Brodt winning the 2015 U.S. Amateur Pool Championship in Palm Harbor, Florida, last weekend:
"There's a new kind of shark lurking in Laguna Beach."
Not only did the local yokel best the rest of the tournament field, Brodt managed to capture a title he previously won back in 1999, making him the oldest hustler to ever win the U.S. Amateur Pool Championship, like he's Paul Newman in The Color of Money or something.
"Brodt was one of 128 players from a field of nearly 2,000 who qualified for the Championship Rounds from one of 33 Preliminary Rounds held across the country," reveals the St. Louis, MO-based American PoolPlayers Association. "The double elimination tournament offered these top amateur players the opportunity to showcase their skills through a combination of 8-Ball and 9-Ball."
For his win, Brodt received a ripping trophy, entry into the 2016 U.S. Open 9-Ball Championship and an automatic bid to return and defend his title next year.
