Halloween Anti-DUI Patrols Give Revelers Behind the Wheel a Scare

Ghosts, ghoulies and other trick-or-treaters won't be the only scary beings out tonight as the Orange County Sheriff's Department has announced it is stepping up patrols for drunken drivers.

“Keep the party off the road” is the message of the Orange County Avoid DUI task force.

The so-called saturation patrols will flood streets with histories of drunken driving arrests, collisions and fatalities and that are within the sheriff's coverage areas. But don't have a false sense of security on other roads within the county, rummy, because some of the other 33 law enforcement agencies likely have anti-DUI plans of their own.

The anti-DUI task force released these Halloween tips:

  • Plan a safe way home before the festivities begin.

  • Taking medication or using drugs can impair your driving. Never mix drugs with alcohol.
  • Before drinking, designate a sober driver and leave your car keys at home.
If you're impaired, take a taxi, call a sober friend or family member, or use public transportation to
    insure you get home safely.
  • If you see a drunk driver on the road, call 911.
