While many people are fangirling over Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton's relationship it seems as though Stefani's peculiar merchandise for her “This Is What the Truth Feels Like Tour” are slightly being overlooked. As many of us know Stefani was born and raised in Anaheim and the singer is known for making references to the OC in her music and fashion.
So, it doesn't come as a surprise to see Stefani has now started selling merchandise on tour that have OC references. The tour apparel simply reads “Anaheim Hillbillies.” Yes, you read that right. Gwen Stefani has claimed herself as a hillbilly.
But what is a “Anaheim Hillbilly?” According to two popular No Doubt websites, everythingintime.com and beaconstreetonline.net (a user commented on their post), the term is used as gang slang for those located in Anaheim Hills.
It is confusing as to why Stefani would want to associate with the gang affiliated term since she grew up in the middle class and seems to have lived a good life. This then means that there are only two possible outcomes: 1) Stefani has a past life that has not been brought to the medias attention, which would be bad ass not going to lie, or 2) her love for Shelton has grown so deep that she forgot Anaheim is located in California and not Oklahoma.
Despite the unclear reasoning as to why Stefani has chosen “Anaheim Hillbillies” as her trademark merch for the tour, fans are in love with the clothes. The “Orange County Girl” herself has taken to Twitter to retweet different fans across the country who have taken pictures of themselves wearing the shirt or sweater in support of Stefani and her roots.
It is bizarre that there are people across the country who are representing a city they more than likely only know exists because of Stefani or Disneyland, but hey it's “cool.” We're not going to go “bananas” over it or anything.
