Last month, I tasked OC Weekly theater critic Joel Beers with the seemingly impossible: write a cover story on the Santa Ana River, except do it in the style of Thoreau's A Week on the Concord and Merrimack Rivers. And, by Jove, the bastard did it, penning a beautiful ode to the waterway, from its source all the way to its mouth.
His piece was so good that I decided to make it the focus of my KCRW-FM 89.9 commentary yesterday.
