Now that you're back from your summer vacation, it's time to sit back and relax in front of a local movie screen–in particular the one at the Peter & Mary Muth Interpretive Center in Newport Beach showing a documentary Thursday (for free!) that questions what you may have done around the world.

“Anthropologist Pegi Vail's feature-length documentary raises urgent questions about one of the most powerful globalizing forces of our time: tourism,” reads the event description for Gringo Trails.
“The film follows stories along the well‐worn western travelers' route–the 'gringo trail'– through South America, Africa and Asia, revealing the complex relationships host countries hungry for financial security and the tourists who provide it in their quest for 'authentic' experiences.”
Stunning (and sickening) footage from Bolivia, Thailand, Mali and Bhutan are featured during the film, which is presented locally by the Newport Beach Film Festival in partnership with Orange County Parks and Newport Bay Conservancy. The event is free and open to the public.
