Gregory Mark Konishi, Firefighter Who Lifted Twenties from Captain's Wallet, Pleads Guilty

An Orange County Fire Authority retiree who'd been represented in court by the district attorney's former wife pleaded guilty Tuesday to stealing $40 from a co-worker's wallet at the Irvine station. Former firefighter-paramedic Gregory Mark Konishi, 49, entered his plea to two misdemeanor counts each of second-degree burglary and petty theft.

An unidentified captain noticed money missing from his wallet periodically and set up a surveillance camera in his room at the fire station. Konishi, a Rancho Santa Margarita resident, was recorded sneaking in and stealing $20 from the skipper's wallet on Sept. 28 and again on Oct. 22.

Konishi was arrested Nov. 8, and it was later reported Kay Rackauckas, the former wife of DA Tony, was repping the firefighter, who retired after 25 years on the job the following month. He is to be sentenced on Aug. 5.
