The firefighter who pleaded not guilty to four misdemeanor counts tied to his alleged theft of $40 from a fire captain's wallet at their Orange County Fire Authority station in Irvine has reportedly retired.
It's also been disclosed Gregory Mark Konishi, 49, of Rancho Santa Margarita, is being represented in court by the former wife of Orange County District Attorney Tony Rackauckas.
As we reported in the second half of this post . . .
. . . the unidentified captain noticed money missing from his wallet
periodically and set up a surveillance camera in his room at the fire station.
Konishi was recorded sneaking in and stealing $20 from the skipper's
wallet on Sept. 28 and again on Oct. 22, according to the Orange County
District Attorney's office.
Facing charges that could bring sentences
ranging from probation to up to two years in jail with a conviction, Konishi pleaded not guilty as his arraignment last month.
Now, the Orange County Register has reported Kay Rackauckas is Konishi's attorney of record and that the Orange County
Professional Firefighters Association confirmed the firefighter retired on Dec. 28.
