Ghostbusters

It seems like yesterday we were watching Ghostbusters at the local drive-in in the back of an Oldsmobile. But the positive side of getting old is that we get to share the gems of yesteryear with new generations. And as gems go, this film is one of the crown jewels of ‘80s comedy. Featuring an all-star cast full of surprise performances—not the least of which includes Sigourney Weaver’s turn as the statuesque damsel-in-distress turned possessed-sex-demon. Also noteworthy was the performance of Bill Murray, who was at the top of his deadpan comedic prowess (dig the scene where he’s administering electric shocks to a hapless male test subject while flirting with a beautiful female counterpart). Chock full of laughs, state-of-the art (for the era) visual effects, Ghostbusters spawned a lexicon of quotable material about slime, marshmallow men, crossing the streams and turning lady-wraiths into toast.
