Gays Petition Lady Gaga to Boycott Arizona, Instead Want a Meet and Greet

Yesterday, our sister publication LA Weekly reported that an LGBTQ petition was urging Lady Gaga to cancel her Phoenix show at the US Airways Center scheduled on Sunday, July 31, and boycott Arizona. Their campaign urged Gaga to “Be a Lady For Our Community – Get us through these changing skies” and asks fans to sign a petition as a way to convince Gaga to stand with the gay and lesbian migrant community in Arizona.

Except that the petitioner later backtracked and said, “I made it in hopes that I can get Lagy Gaga to meet with the community and learn first hand the struggles we are going through. I am NOT asking that she cancel her concert but to denounce sb1070, spread awareness at the show, and bring attention/following to the issues of the LGBTQ migrant community.”

Uhh, yeah! We get it; you want Lady Gaga to stand up for migrant communities but you don't want to miss the awesomeness that the Monster Ball promises, so you now want to just “meet” Lady Gaga. Good call. Petitioners Victor Medina and Amelec Jalaam Diaz now state in the petition: “We would like you to see through the eyes of a transgender person, drag queen, gay man, a lesbian woman or a dedicated fan that lives in this air of hate.  We ask that you take the time to meet with the community.”
The petition originally read:
Lady Gaga, Please be a lady FOR our community.
The state of Arizona is EXTRA right now. A wave of laws like sb 1070 is making it a crime to be brown and putting whole communities at risk.
Both migrant and LGBTQ communities know what it is to have to fight for our full human dignity to be affirmed. You have the opportunity to play a special role in that fight in Arizona.
Communities have called for a boycott of the state to make it happen. As an icon and beloved artist, please join us in boycotting Arizona and turn your trip into an opportunity to meet your little monsters in the Migrant LGBTQ.munity so that you can speak out against the hateful laws and be a champion for this human rights cause.
