Garden Grove Police Double Team with Checkpoints Friday and Saturday Nights

The Garden Grove Police Department's Traffic Unit is conducting a DUI/drivers license checkpoints from 9 tonight through 3 a.m. Saturday near Brookhurst Street and Garden Grove Boulevard.

But wait, there's another one in the city where I do not recall stumbling upon gardens or groves during the same hours Saturday night/early Sunday morning.

Where?

Right here, sayeth the PD: Westmisnter Avenue and Bushard Street.

Honestly, I'm sure there are plenty of beautiful gardens and wonderful groves covering parts of Garden Grove. It's just when I'm there, my face is usually buried in dim sum. Or is that when I'm in Westminster?

The point is, Garden Grove cops say the number of alcohol-, drug- and alcohol/drug-related crashes “drop by an average of 20 percent when well-publicized checkpoints are conducted often enough.” You may have noticed, Garden Grove has had a bunch recently.

Fear not, Garden Grove taxpayer: your police agency points to figures that show $6 is saved for every $1 spent on anti-DUI operations like checkpoints. And they are funded by grants to the city from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Let's drink to that–with sparkling cider, of course.
