A 26-year-old man standing in his Garden Grove front yard early on Memorial Day was shot and later declared brain dead, according to police.
It's unclear at this hour if the unidentified victim had been disconnected from life support at UC Irvine Medical Center in Orange, according to Lieutenant Jeff Nightengale, the Garden Grove Police Department spokesman.

The gunman remains at large, and no weapon has been recovered, Nightengale added.
Police were called about 3:15 a.m. Monday to the home in the 12500 block of Fallingleaf Street to check on a man down in the front yard, said the spokesman, who added the man suffered “a traumatic injury to the face.''
Investigators were not sure he had been shot in the head until hospital X-rays confirmed it.
