Garden Grove Cops Cover Streets Like Rain Friday the 13th to Nab Drunken Drivers

Sloppy roadways should keep you from getting your drinky-winky on before climbing behind the wheel tonight, Friday the 13th. If you're in Garden Grove, here's another reason you and Sailor Jerry should stay inside: Police will saturate the streets like raindrops beginning at 7 tonight. “If you drive drunk, Garden Grove PD will be looking for you,” says Sgt Carl Whitney in a statement about tonight's “Zero Tolerance” DUI saturation patrol. “If you're over the limit and we catch you, you will be arrested.” Mercy.

Through a grant administered by the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the department is pouring extra manpower onto areas known for drunken driving arrests, collisions and fatalities.

“Law enforcement officers are doing more to remove drunk drivers from California's streets and highways thanks to our DUI traffic safety funding,” Christopher J. Murphy, director of the California Office of Traffic Safety, says in the same release.

The goal is zero deaths related to boozing, drugging and driving. Those who have not imbibed are asked to help officers by dialing 9-1-1 if they see a drunken motorist.
