Gaüfreé, Another Waffle Sandwich Shop, Planned for Irvine

Last week, our own Anne Marie Panoringan broke the news that the next location for waffle-juggernaut Bruxië's was slated to be in Irvine.

Now it looks like it will have some competition just a few blocks down. We don't know much about the new waffle-sandwich shop Gaüfreé except it will be situated between Pho So 1 and Jalapeno's at the Irvine's Westpark Plaza on Alton near Culver, but the Irvine Retail Properties site does offer this description:

]

“Offering gourmet waffle sandwiches for lunch and dinner. The urban chic, yet casual restaurant also serves sweet and savory items made with seasonally fresh produce, as well as specialty coffee drinks.”

And while Bruxië will presumably be mobbed by the Vaqueros of nearby Irvine High come lunchtime, Gaüfreé is close enough to cross-town rival Woodbridge High to be patronized by its student body of Warriors.

The name Gaüfreé, if you haven't guessed by now, is rooted in the French for “waffle.” Only time will tell whether Gaüfreé will best Bruxië, but we already know one thing: It beats Bruxië by one on the use of diacritics.
