The Frida Cinema, our favorite indie art house, celebrates one year of bringing classic and contemporary independent films to our backyard with more than a free screening, but a full-on film-art event. Honoring the female artist who inspired the name, Frida director Logan Crow brings a showing of the 2002 Salma Hayek-starring biopic Frida, a film depicting the life of surrealist painter Frida Kahlo. And since everyone's in love with Frida these days, there's no shortage of homages at this event: prior to the screening, about 20 local artists will adorn the walls of the cinema's lobby with their own Kahlo-inspired works, ranging from photography to paintings and more, no doubt capturing that famous face (and unibrow). Here's to more years with this fine, cinematic establishment.
