Now that the Weekly’s annual Summer Guide is officially out of the bag, it’s time to get out to the beach to celebrate. On July 16, Summer Fest returns to Newport Dunes for an afternoon of surf, sand, sounds and sustenance. This year, the fest, Presented by Cox Business, is headlined by South Bay reggae band Fortunate Youth. Still high off of the release of their latest album Love is the Most High last February, the bombastic six piece will rock a full set of Jah-loving jams with support from Rootz Underground straight from Jamaica, Cali Conscious and Black Salt Tone.
Boasting performances on a beachside stage, beer and drink booths, food trucks, vendors and a VIP Cabana fitted with a Summer Cocktail Lounge and Taco Throwdown contest, this is one summer soiree not to miss.
All attendees will receive a commemorative tasting glass upon entry presented by Anaheim’s new rooftop lounge, The Fifth, and the following drink purveyors will be filling these cups up with tastings: Angel City Brewery, Anheuser Busch, Aperol, Buckshot Bourbon, Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, Corona, Diabolo, Espolon Tequila, Evan’s Brewing Co., Knee Deep Brewing, Lagunitas Brewing Co., Latitude 33 Brewing, Newport Brew Co., Sambazon, Sapporo, Tito’s Handmade Vodka and Unsung Brewing Co.. Also included around the property will be Aquafina Hydration Stations with free ice-cold water and flavored sparkling water.
In the Tito’s Handmade Vodka VIP Lounge, VIP attendees will have extra tastings in the Summer Cocktail Lounge where Tavern+Bowl, The Hub, Macallans Public House, Nekter Juice Bar and the soon to re-open Royal Hawaiian will be pouring their favorite summer libations using Tito’s Handmade Vodka!
All attendees will have access to some of Orange County’s favorite food trucks including Burger Monster, California Grill Truck, Falasophy, Haole Boys Shave Ice, Piaggio On Wheels and Sweet Lou’s BBQ. Mini sampling bites will also be provided by Sambazon, Krave Jerky and The Halal Guys. VIP ticket holders get the added amenity of free food such as dessert by Gelato Paradiso and tacos from the five competitors of our 2nd Annual Taco Throwdown, also taking place in the Tito’s Handmade Vodka VIP Cabana.
The competitors include Borracho Tacos, Tacolized, The Fifth, TLT Food and Urbana. There will be a judges vote and an attendee vote. The winner of the attendee vote will receive a custom trophy, OC Weekly print ad, editorial announcements and of course, bragging rights!
Tickets are available online now until 10a.m. on July 16th for purchase at http://www.ocsummerfest.com. A limited number of VIP tickets are available for purchase for $50 and general admission tickets for $30. Pricing will increase by $10 on July 5th.
