First Round of 'Gustavo's Awesome Lecture Series!' Concludes With Screening of Born In East LA THIS THURSDAY

Six months of awesome monthly events at the Fullerton Public Library–all part of my “Gustavo's Awesome Lecture Series!”, sponsored by the Cal State Fullerton Department of Chicana and Chicano Studies (where I lecture) . . . phew, that's a long sentence. Start over!

One of the greatest memories of growing up in Southern California during the 1990s was seeing almost-weekly weekend broadcasts on KTLA-TV Channel 5 of the 1987 film Born In East LA, which, almost 25 years later, still stands as the greatest commentary on the twisted logic of American immigration policies with Mexico EVER. Most film critics were shocked when it first aired to see star/director Cheech Marin drop the bong (but not the comedy) and deliver such a poignant, hilarious film.

It's a fitting conclusion to my “Gustavo's Awesome Lecture Series!” series that I've held monthly this year at the Fullerton Public Library.

It'll happen THIS THURSDAY at the Fullerton Public Library, 353 W. Commonwealth Ave., Fullerton, (714) 738-6333. 6:30 p.m. I'll have some brief comments on the film's significance and announce parts of the second round of the lecture series. Best of all? The screening is FREE–GO GO GO!
