Ex-White House Speechwriter Peggy Noonan Is Coming to Orange County

Peggy Noonan, a White House speechwriter for President Ronald Reagan, has been invited to be the keynote speaker for the 2011 Annual Dinner of the Orange County Business Council (OCBJ), a corporate lobbying outfit.

Noonan, nowadays a best-selling Republican author and columnist for The Wall Street Journal, is given credit for coining the phrases “a kindler, gentler nation” and “a thousand points of light” for George H.W. Bush when he was vice president.

Of course, her most famous–actually, infamous–line was also put into that Bush's mouth: “Read my lips: no new taxes,” which he uttered before raising taxes after he became president.
In announcing Noonan's speech, OCBJ officials did not mention her expected specific topic.
The dinner, which has a  theme–“Turning Red Tape Into Red Carpet” (huh?)–is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 3 at the Hyatt Regency in Irvine.
