It was the Fullerton Police Parking Control officer who heard the gunshots and found the two men who'd been shot in and near a four-door Toyota sedan. The woman in the reported “love triangle” had been the driver, her boyfriend had been in the front passenger seat and her ex had been in a back seat when a fight broke out. According to reports, the ex got out of the car, pulled out a semiautomatic weapon, fired into the car to shoot the boyfriend and then turned the gun on himself.

ORIGINAL POST, NOV. 19, 6:30 A.M.: One man was dead and another was clinging to life Wednesday in a clash tied to what Fullerton Police called a “love triangle.”

Officers on patrol heard gunshots around 1:30 p.m. that sent them to Harbor Boulevard and Ash Avenue, where they arrived to see a man turn a gun on himself, according to Fullerton Police Sgt. Kathryn Hamel.

He was pronounced dead at the scene, and a second man who had been shot nearby was taken to a local hospital in critical condition, said Hamel, who described them as being in their late 30s or early 40s. Who was shot when was confirmed by a parking officer who witnessed the whole thing, the spokeswoman added.

A woman who had been with the men–but was not injured–was questioned by police, who learned the man who shot himself was either her estranged or common-law husband, Hamel said.
