Last month, Foothill High School in North Tustin SanTana made national news after students were caught flashing a #chunti sign during a boy's basketball game against crosstown rival Tustin High School. Now it's Foothill that's at the receiving end of a racist, stupid student section thanks to Esperanza High School. Seems that during the Knights' 61-57 comeback victory Jan. 30 over the Aztecs at their Anaheim Hills home, students subjected senior point guard Reed Nakakihara to chants of “Jackie Chan” and “shrimp fried rice”–you know, because all Asians are alike to Esperanza's precious children.

The story was broken by Orange County Register high-school sports legend Steve Fryer, who got Esperanza's principal to say “This is unacceptable and we're embarassed.” Well, DUH…
Nakakihara, to his credit, took it in stride after the game:

Figured that he wouldn't be TOO sore, after all: his 17 points helped the Knights come back from a 16-point deficit.

It remains to be seen what, if any, disciplinary action Esperanza will take against the prep pendejos who heckled Nakakihara. But Foothill kids: I know ustedes got mad at me last month for stereotyping y'all over #chuntigate as racist snooty kids, a stereotype I didn't create and that goes back to when I was a kid. If it makes ustedes feel any better, the stereotype of Esperanza High when I was in high school in the 1990s was that of rich meatheads who were great at football, being douchebags, and little else. And with the Aztec treatment of Nakakihara, seems nothing has changed…
