Erik Virgil Held in Yorba Linda Brush Fire

A 26-year-old Torrance man was arrested for allegedly starting a six-acre brush fire that threatened homes in Yorba Linda Thursday afternoon, according to authorities.

The fire was reported around 12:15 p.m. near the 21400 block of Casino Ridge Road, where about 120 firefighters were sent, according to Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA) Capt. Matt Levesque.

The blaze was battled on the ground by county, Anaheim and Fullerton firefighter and in the air by OCFA and state helicopters that made water drops and three air tankers from the state fire department that dispersed fire retardant, according to OCFA Capt. Steve Concialdi.

Meanwhile, a Los Angeles County sheriff's helicopter crew in the area spotted a man running and was able to land and detain him, said Orange County Sheriff's Lt. Jeff Hallock.

Erik Virgil was taken to an area hospital for unspecified treatment and later booked on suspicion of arson, added Hallock, who noted the OCFA is handling the investigation.
