Eine Party

If Germans are known for one thing (other than that nasty little World War II business), it’s drinking beer and eating bratwrust. Or is that two things? Anyway, October is the month to celebrate such behavior with the autumnal festival Oktoberfest. Luckily, we Orange Countians have our own miniature Bavarian village nestled in Huntington Beach, which saves us from having to make the 6,000-mile journey to the land of lederhosen for the celebration. Since 1978, H.B.’s Old World Village has hosted an Oktoberfest to rival that of the homeland. Complete with bands imported from Europe, dancing, beer (in steins, no less), and tasty German foods from sauerkraut to hot pretzels, Olde World has a little something for everyone. Go on a Sunday and watch the dachshund races if you’re in the mood for laughs, or head in any ol’ day if you’re in the mood to say prosit a lot.

Saturdays, Sundays, 6:30 a.m.; Sundays, 2 p.m.; Tuesdays-Thursdays, 7 p.m. Starts: Oct. 4. Continues through Nov. 2, 2008
