Eight Days

Thurs/Sept 29
Love, Bukowksi“? Can you imagine that awful old skeeze signing “Love” anything? Well, clearly the cast of Love, Bukowski can, as actors from the production offer a “Sneak Peek” Bukowski Poetry Reading. Despite my qualms with the name (and the man behind it), I do have good sixth-grade memories of family readings at the dinner table from The Most Beautiful Girl in the World. God, my parents are so going to hell. 7 p.m. Open, 144 Linden Ave., Long Beach, (562) 499-OPEN.

Just dropped in to see what condition Kenny Rogers'condition was in. So the Gambler's no Willie Nelson, but he's still got some of the canon to his credit, including, um, well, “Island in the Stream” (with the immortal Miss Dolly Parton) and “Ruby Don't Take Your Love toTown.” What's funny about Kenny Rogers—I mean aside from the chicken restaurants and the Indian casino—is that he started as a doo-wop guy in the '50s, went on to psychedelia in the '60s, and then went crunchy country when crunchy country seemed like the place to be. So really I'd say he's kind of an opportunist. But I still like him anyway. Probably not as much as you do, though, because unlike you I'm not a huge, huge dork. 8 p.m. $28-$158. Orange County Performing Arts Center, Segerstrom Hall, 600 Town Center Dr., Costa Mesa,(714) 556-2787; www.ocpac.org.

I wouldn't normally recommend Pugtoberfest except—oh, who'm I kidding? Of course I would! Anyway, I'm especially recommending it this time because the day of fun for “pugs, pals and people too” awards prizes for best costume, “find your pug,” a dog race and best kisser. And I want to know just how they judge that. There's also an ask a vet section, eye exam, ear cleaning and nail clipping services offered along with an agility/obedience demo, adopted dog parade, silent auction, vendors, food, raffles and an adoption fair.11 a.m.-4 p.m. $6-$12. TeWinkle Park, 970 Arlington Dr., Costa Mesa, (949) 262-7843.

Sun
I may be the only person in the county who hates The Beach Boys. Seriously, I can't freaking stand their whiny little girly-man twee-ness. But for your sake I hope that when they show up to Newport Dunes' Centennial Celebration, it's not, like, just one keyboardist who played with them in the '70s. You know: like every time Missing Persons plays. That would suck. There's also food, drinks, continuous entertainment, boat races and games. 11 a.m.-5 p.m. $15. Newport Dunes Resort, 1131 Back Bay Dr., Newport Beach, (949) 729-DUNE.

Mon
I got nothing.

Tues
Have you read Fluke by Christopher Moore? No? Me either! But my mom made herself a koi pond (out of, like, a kiddy pool), and it grew flukes in it. So that's disgusting. And then a baby possum fell in her koi pond, and she had to rescue it, and that's when she found the flukes. So that's disgusting too. Right. So. Barnes N Noble's Sci-Fi/Fantasy Reading Group discusses Fluke by Christopher Moore. Enjoy. 7 p.m. Barnes N Noble, 7777 Edinger Ave., Huntington Beach, (714) 897-8781.

Wed
You know what sucks? Performance art! But you know what's good? When performance art has a 10-minute time limit. One of these days, I'm gonna tell you about the show I went to a few weeks ago, featuring a middle-aged Jewish woman playing Mexican (which would be akin to my going, “Look at me, I'm an old black granny!”) and talking about placentas lying in the dirt and getting raped and impregnated by “Papi” and from which I had to evacuate myself halfway through. Anyway. The newest tenbyten Performance Lab, at Koo's Art Caf in Long Beach, includes Andy Wolf(musical comedy), Kristen Autry(video), Raindog(music), Cuca Esteves(music/performance), Christopher Villa(poetry/music), Sweaty Moon(performance), Jessica Peterson(music/performance), David Rousseve(music), Elijahh(music) and Sarah Green(music). 8 p.m. $6. Koo's Art Caf, 540 E. Broadway, Long Beach, (562) 491-7584; www.koos.org.

Thurs/Oct 6
Norm MacDonald, fired as the best Saturday Night Live newsman ever (and replaced with the sad sadness that is Colin Quinn) because he wouldn't stop making fun of O.J. Simpson, is funny. I think I'll go to this and hit on him. 8:30 p.m. $27. Irvine Improv, in the Irvine Spectrum, Irvine, (949) 854-5455.

  1. CBD exceeded my expectations in every way thanks https://www.cornbreadhemp.com/blogs/learn/hemp-vs-marijuana . I’ve struggled with insomnia looking for years, and after demanding CBD because of the first mores, I lastly experienced a busty nightfall of restful sleep. It was like a weight had been lifted off my shoulders. The calming effects were merciful yet intellectual, allowing me to drift afar obviously without sensibilities groggy the next morning. I also noticed a reduction in my daytime angst, which was an unexpected but welcome bonus. The tactfulness was a flash lusty, but nothing intolerable. Whole, CBD has been a game-changer for my nap and uneasiness issues, and I’m appreciative to procure discovered its benefits.
