Eifman Ballet's Don Quixote

Russian-born choreographer Boris Eifman single-handedly changed theatrical dance with his fearless take on ballet choreography and penchant for what one critic described as “dark portrayals of anguished sexuality and extreme psychological states.” This week, his company presents Don Quixote, the tale of a different sort of madman with visions of grandeur. The centuries-old story and famous Russian ballet get the Eifman touch with titillating twists and turns—The Nutcracker, this ain’t. Prior to the performance, Cal State Long Beach dance professor and former San Francisco Ballet and American Ballet Theatre dancer Lorin Johnson hosts a free lecture and discussion.
