Thankfully, it's a light week on the Pervy beat.
Rather than wait for today, we immediately posted Thursday about Vietnamese entertainer Minh Beo pleading guilty to sex crimes with boys.
So that leaves just one case from the Pervy Desk today.
Eduardo Vidal Avalos, 20, of Orange, has been arrested on suspicion of sexually assaulting a 24-year-old woman in a South Coast Plaza parking area on Aug. 2. Costa Mesa cops had been sent to the tony shopping center after the report, but the attacker had fled on foot. A check of the mall's surveillance video led the police department to release video and still images of the suspect on Wednesday.
Those pictures were blasted by media outlets, and the next morning Avalos turned himself in to the Santa Ana Police Department, according to Costa Mesa Police Lt. Paul Beckman. Avalos was questioned by detectives, who say the suspect was cooperative, and released.
After consulting with the Orange County District Attorney's office, detectives arrested Avalos on suspicion of assault with intent to commit a felony and attempted penetration with a foreign object.
