UPDATE, SEPT. 30, 4:15 P.M.: A Southern California Edison contractor apparently died in this afternoon's explosion in an underground electrical vault in Huntington Beach, according to authorities.
“Presumed” because conditions at the accident site in Huntington Harbour at Mistral Drive and Tisbury Circle kept crews from immediately searching the area, Huntington Beach Fire Capt. Bob Culhane told City News Service.
Meanwhile, electrical services were interrupted for about 350 ratepayers after the blast, which caused flames that were extinguished and the de-energizing of the vault within about an hour of the 12:16 p.m. incident, according to Culhane.
