Southern California's Herald Bayani Ringor can partly blame a terrible addiction to methamphetamine for his federal criminal record.
Law enforcement officers caught Ringor in possession of stolen mail in 2012 and using the contents of mail to steal more than $12,000 from unsuspecting victims in Orange County.
Government agents used bank surveillance recordings to help prove their case, according to court records.

But at this week's sentencing hearing, the crook learned for certain that he'd saved himself a substantial period of incarceration by admitting his guilty even before charges were filed.
Inside the Ronald Reagan Federal Courthouse in Santa Ana, U.S. District Court Judge David O. Carter ordered Ringor to pay full restitution to the victims and serve a five-month prison sentence followed by supervised probation for three years.
Ringor, 30, is presently housed under federal custody inside the Santa Ana Jail with an inmate number of 666.
