A 27-year-old parolee has been arrested for Sunday’s robbery of a medical marijuana dispensary in Garden Grove, and a handgun stolen from a security guard at the establishment was found in his possession, according to police.
That’s the good news.
Now the bad.
The robber had a partner.
And the partner is still out there.
Cops got the call at 10:33 a.m. Sunday that the Organic House, 9840 Garden Grove Blvd., had just been hit.
Garden Grove Police Lt. Robert Bogue gave this account, based on the statements of three dispensary employees who say they were held at gunpoint:
Two men entered the store, and one of them had an Uzi-type handgun. They immediately disarmed the security guard and forced him to the ground at gunpoint. As one intruder watched over the three employees, the other placed a sizable amount of marijuana into a large duffle bag.
In addition to the medical cannabis and the guard’s gun, the pair took cash and the workers’ cell phones before leaving the store, jumping into a black Toyota Camry and driving off.
“Garden Grove Police detectives were called to the scene and worked on several different leads” is about the only hint Bogue gave for how they arrived at arresting Edward Hightower in Paramount on Tuesday.
On parole for robbery, Hightower had a stolen handgun in his apartment to go with the guard’s that was on him when he got popped, according to the police spokesman.
Hightower was booked into Orange County Jail.
Meanwhile, the Garden Grove Police Department is asking for the public’s help in identifying and/or finding the second dude, thus the release of the following surveillance video.
Here is the suspect car, a newer model Camry with four doors and chrome rims.
Next we see the suspects entering the store. The unknown robber is described as an African American, late 20s-early 30s with a heavy build.
Finally, the robbery as it unfolded. Thankfully, no one was hurt.
Anyone who can help is asked to call Garden Grove Police Detective John Casaccia, even anonymously, at 714-741-5840.
