Orange County prosecutors dropped their medical insurance fraud case against popular Newport Beach plastic surgeon Dr. Jay W. Calvert.
“I am satisfied that this thorough investigation into my practice has yielded a favorable, complete and just result,” says Calvert, who also has an office in Beverly Hills, in a statement.

Prosecutors in November had accused Calvert of having performed medically unnecessary procedures on a rhinoplasty patient in 2009 to collect more insurance money. The client said the unneeded work led to long-term medical complications.
But on Monday Deputy District Attorney Shaddi Kamiabipour moved in court to have the case against the Calvert dropped on grounds of “insufficient evidence.”
“That kind of charge can ruin a person's life,” Allan Stokke, Calvert's attorney, told City News Service. “Guilty or innocent it can be an absolute death sentence for a person's career; so to have it fairly quickly dismissed is an extremely important matter for a well-respected doctor.''
