DJ Mehdi, RIP: Electro Producer Collaborated with Daft Punk, Chromeo


Mehdi Favéris-Essadi, known to the world as DJ Mehdi, has passed away. According to French site Liberation Next, the accident happened at DJ
Mehdi's home, when the mezzanine collapsed and fell several meters. The 34-year-old DJ and producer collaborated with Daft Punk and Chromeo. News of the Frenchman's death circulated on Twitter this morning and was first thought to be a hoax, until his friend DJ Cut Killer wrote (in French), “DJ Mehdi !!! There are no
words to tell you the sorrow which I feel… A friend goes from there…
Rest in peace bro.”

Drake tweeted, “Damn…RIP
MEHDI.” Chromeo wrote: “We lost our brother. No words.”

Social Club posted the following message to their Facebook page:
“Following the death of DJ Mehdi, we have made the exceptional decision
to close the club tonight. An evening of silence in honor of the artist.
Thank you for not commenting on this status.”

DJ Mehdi first gained notice in his work on in France's hip hop scene, and signed with French electro label Ed Banger Records. Aside from Daft Punk and Chromeo, he collaborated with a number of big names, including MC
