It all started after midnight near the intersection of East Sycamore and North Pauline streets, where callers to police reported seeing as many as a dozen males and females fighting and someone being injured, according to Lt. Bob Dunn, the Anaheim Police spokesman.

Gunfire was also heard, but police could not confirm a shooting happened.

By 12:30 a.m., cops were told about a burgundy-colored SUV involved in the melee heading east on Sycamore. Two injured men and an SUV fitting that description were found about three blocks from the street brawl, Dunn said.

Officers performed CPR on the more seriously injured of the two and later had him taken to a nearby hospital, where he died from at least one stab wound, according to Dunn, who described the second man's stab wounds as non-life threatening.

Police are unsure what started the street brawl. It may have been gang related, according to Dunn, who adds that no arrests have been made.
