Delta Mirror

Released earlier this year, the Delta Mirror’s debut LP Machines That Listen is a hypnotic, digitally savvy (laptop electronica!) introduction to a trio tighter than you would think—through the album’s spacey echo comes a solid foundation, clearly some residue left over from the group’s previous hip-hop dabblings. Conceptually, each song takes place in a different room in an imaginary hospital, a potentially off-putting situation made wholly inviting by the Delta Mirror’s easy palatableness. The LA band’s sound is slow and smooth, reveling in med-fi, starry-eyed shoegaze—think a Paul Banks-fronted School of Seven Bells or even Fuck Buttons turned down to a whisper.
