The CEO of a ride service for would-be drunken drivers needed a rescue early Saturday when his car was struck by a suspected drunken driver who ran a red light in Cypress.
"I'm very lucky and thankful to have walked away from it with current minor injuries," Davlyn Freitas writes on the Drunk Rescue Facebook page.
A company driver told a Huntington Beach user of the service–who found the incident "tragically ironic"–that the accident happened off Katella Avenue and Valley View Street.
"Our mission is to lower the death by drunk driving and DUI conviction rate by providing our customers with a convenient, affordable means of transportation," reads the Facebook description for Drunk Rescue, a chauffeur service that provides professional drivers to drive clients in their own vehicles wherever they wish. The cost is reported to be $10 to $30.
Here is Freitas' full message:
Hello my beloved customers,
It is with great relief I am writing to you today.
Saturday, the 03/29/14 at roughly around 3 a.m., I was struck by a drunk driver who ran a red light at 60 mph.
I'm very lucky and thankful to have walked away from it with current minor injuries.
I just want to thank you all so much for your support the last 2 years we have been in business, making the right choice by not drinking and driving and helping us with our mission to reduce drunk driving in our community.
Every 45 minutes, someone dies due to an alcohol related car accident. I'm very lucky and thankful I was not one.
This is why we founded Drunk Rescue. We started this company to reduce drinking and driving not by just telling people they shouldn't drink and drive, but by doing something directly to impact it.
I beg of you, please, do not drink and drive and do not let others drink and drive.
It could have been much worse.
It could have even been you.
I'm extremely humbled and thankful for all of your support.
Thank you so very much,
– Davlyn Freitas, CEO
Pretty sobering, eh?
