David Gonzalez is making an unusual offer: In honor of the 15th anniversary of his DG Boxing gym in Long Beach in January 2015, he vows to train 15 boxers over the next 15 months so they will be ready to compete for the 2015 Golden Gloves.
And he's offering to do this for free!
One thing you should know: only two of those boxers–one with the best overall record and a second “wild card” chosen by DG Boxing–gets the open Golden Gloves slots.

But, c'mon, free boxing training for 15 months!
Gonzalez says he considers himself “blessed to be able to celebrate 15 years at the PCH location and to have the opportunity to do what I'm passionate about.” So, he came up with the free training offer “as a way of celebrating this milestone and giving back to the sport I love.”
The “journey” of all 15 boxers will be documented on video, he adds.
“I'm looking for serious guys or girls who are eligible for the amateur ranks and may have wanted to compete, but possibly could not afford the training before,” he says. “Now is your chance.”
Tryouts are scheduled to begin Jan. 15 and last approximately 15 days. The target fight weight will be the 141-pound division.
