David Alia Identified as Man Shot Dead in Apparent Santa Ana Drive-by: Update

ORIGINAL POST, JUNE 2, 6:38 A.M.: A male was shot to death Saturday night in Santa Ana, apparently by someone who was inside a passing vehicle, according to police.

An advisory from the agency states that an officer heard gunshots while on patrol in the area of 600 East Pine just after 10:20 p.m. Saturday. The cop saw several males running in the area before one collapsed in front of him.

Paramedics arrived to treat the male–who has not been identified by name or age–but he was pronounced dead at the scene with a gunshot wound to the upper torso.

The initial investigation by homicide detectives indicates someone in a vehicle fired at the group of males in the area of 300 South Halladay, according to the advisory, which asks anyone with information to call detectives at 714.245.8390. The Santa Ana Police Department offers monetary rewards for information leading to the arrest of gang homicide or felony gang assault suspects, the agency notes.

UPDATE, JUNE 4, 12:57 P.M.: The dead man has been identified by police as 19-year-old David Alia.

No other new details have been released about the fourth of four fatal shootings in Santa Ana in May.
