Dance Variations

We all know that those back up dancers popping and locking furiously behind Beyonce in her videos, or tappa-tappa-tap dancing in a chorus line didn't just wake up and do a pirouette, they got there by years of physical training, not to mention answering every open-call audition after another. Every dancer worth their pointe shoes knows this, as they've probably been working the wooden floor since they were tots. The Classical Dance Center in OC is where kids have been training vigorously for over the past twenty years, sending off future Broadway hopefuls with foundations for the rest of their career. Their annual Dance Variations recital at Irvine Barclay tonight will exhibit these youths' focus and discipline in their craft, not to mention their range in styles, from ballet to funk. Today's dance geek could totally be tomorrow's Bob Fosse or Martha Graham.
