Criming for Dummies: Super-Slow OCTA Bus as Bank Robbery Getaway Car Edition

A would-be bank robber relied on probably the slowest and most easy to find getaway vehicle ever Wednesday: an Orange County Transportation Authority bus on its regular route.

Kyle Alan Veach, 24, was captured within an hour of the holdup of the U.S. Bank branch at 310 Glenneyre St., Laguna Beach, police said.

The bank was knocked over before noon, when a man fitting Veach's description handed a teller a note without showing a weapon. He left with some cash, but police later went away from the bank with a description of the robber and the direction he fled in.

Around 1 p.m., a police officer saw a man fitting that description waiting at a bus stop at Jasmine Street and North Pacific Coast Highway. He still had the bank loot on him, according to cops.

He was later identified as Veach, who has no known address. He was arrested for the burglary of a home on Hillcrest Drive in March 2012, after Costa Mesa Police found him in a motel in that city with items stolen in Laguna. Veach was also arrested for possessing stolen property in Laguna Beach in 2011.
