Cinco de Mayo Puts More Cops on Streets, Highways and Freeways Starting Tonight

To herald the arrival of Stinko de Drinko weekend, the CHP, Garden Grove Police Department and Orange County Sheriff's Department are deploying saturation patrols tonight.

Saturation in this case does not define the human pickling that will take place in bars, pubs and house parties across Orange County, but the police resources that will be poured into areas known for DUI arrests, accidents and fatalities.

Garden Grove's enforcement begins at 7 p.m., while the patrols in the unincorporated areas and cities that contract the sheriff's department for police services begins an hour earlier. The CHP will help with those as well as stepping up efforts to pull drunken motorists off OC freeways.

“If you drive drunk, Garden Grove PD will be looking for you,” says Sgt. Carl Whitney in a statement released by the agency. “If you're over the limit and we catch you, you will be arrested.”

The ops are funded by the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
