The Orange County Sheriff's Department DUI Task Force did not disclose where in the city the checkpoint will be. Here's a clue from the sheriff's announcement:

Based on collision statistics and frequency of DUI arrests, DUI checkpoints are placed in locations that have the greatest opportunity for achieving drunk and drugged driving deterrence. Locations are chosen with safety considerations for the officers and the public.

Wherever it is, deputies will check drivers passing through for signs of alcohol and/or drug impairment, while also trying to ensure each motorist is properly licensed.

Funding for the operation comes from a California Office of Traffic Safety grant, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

UPDATE, JUNE 27, 3:43 P.M.: The Santa Ana Police Department just announced a DUI/drivers license checkpoint from 9 p.m. Saturday through 3 a.m. Sunday.

And they've told us where: in the area of 500 W. Warner Ave., Santa Ana.

All vehicles may be checked and drivers who are under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs will be arrested, warns the department, whose operation is also funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
