Chad Curtis was a spark plug for what was then the California Angels of the early 1990s, and over a 10-year career that also included time with the Tigers, Blue Jays, Dodgers, Indians, Yankees and
Rangers, he hit a respectable .264 with more than 1,000 big league hits. Now a substitute teacher and weight-room volunteer at Lakeview High School in
Woodland, Michigan, 43-year-old Curtis is not fighting off inside pitches but allegations he inappropriately touched two female students.

Charges have not yet been filed, but Curtis has been suspended from his job pending the ongoing investigation, which may also complicate his plans to become Lakeview High's head football coach in the fall.
Curtis debuted in the bigs with the Angels in 1992, and he went on to play all three outfield positions with the Halos. He was traded three seasons later to Detroit for veteran utility man Tony Phillips. Indeed, Curtis had his best season with the Tigers, batting .268 with 21 homers, 67 RBI and 25 steals.
