Ceci N'est Pas Un Taco

I've had some pretty horrible experiences with things purporting to be tacos. Taco John's, for example, which is about as Mexican as Emperor Akihito. The Minnesota taco, from the bad old days when even Old El Paso taco shells were unavailable in rural Minnesota, is another example: ground beef seasoned only with salt, then tucked into folded white bread and topped with American cheese, iceberg lettuce and ketchup.

And then I happened across this:

Bready crust, iceberg lettuce, superfluous grated cheese, and gratuitous use of dairy products: make no mistake about it, this is from the Midwest.

Whenever I'm down on the Mexican food scene in OC, pictures like this make me so, so grateful for the loncheras and the platos combinados.
