Santa Ana College opened its doors for the first time one fall morning in 1915. Actually, the doors of what was then Santa Ana Junior College had been opened before, as they were Santa Ana High School doors. But that's not important right now. What is important and historical and oh so glorious is SAC is now 100 years old … and fixin' for a big ol' blowout … yo.

Santa Ana College Quad Less Crowded
It happens Sept. 19–a Saturday–from 5-9 p.m. at the football practice field and Parking Lots 11, 12 and 13 of the college at 1530 W. 17th St., Santa Ana. Titled “Celebrated Past and Boundless Future,” the birthday party sounds much more fun than that–and admission and campus parking are free. (RSVPs are invited at www.sac.edu/100/Events/Pages/default.aspx.)
Promised are: live performances, a vintage car display, a community expo, a fireworks show, birthday cake and a mariachi flash mob (hopefully not by Register reporters). There will also be food trucks, a beer and wine garden and a Family Fun Zone sponsored by Disneyland Resorts. It's the closest I'll get to Disney Resort this year … yo.
Seriously, when Santa Ana College opened, there were 24 students and 11 professors. Now nearly 30,000 students are served each semester from the 65-acre campus and at three educational centers. Ironically, there are still only 11 professors, which is why you can never fulfill that damn Humanities requirement in two year. (JK.)
