The California Supreme Court today rejected the last remaining legal challenge to same-sex weddings, dismissing a last-minute petition by Prop 8 supporters to continue enforcement of the initiative approved by voters in 2008.
The state's high court gave no reason for the dismissal that comes more than a month after the U.S. Supreme Court cleared the way for such unions to resume in the Gold Lamé state.

The Prop 8 backers had tried to argue federal Judge Vaughn Walker's 2010 ruling that found the measure banning same-sex marriages unconstitutional was not enough to overturn the law.
The U.S. Supreme Court on June 26 ruled marriage equality opponents lacked legal standing to appeal Walker's decision. Two days later, the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeal lifted a stay it had placed on the ruling while appeals were pending, clearing the way for same-sex weddings to resume.
