U-N-I

Don’t-call-it-a-throwback Inglewood hip-hop duo U-N-I—as seen in flannels, kicks and Mohawks—might often touch the better moments of the ‘80s and ‘90s, but they’re quickly moving toward right-now radio relevance. Earlier this year, local 8-bit master producer Dibia$e put several tracks on their Before There Was Love mixtape, flanking Bambu, Evidence, Big Pooh and even the fearsome Black Milk. Now, U-N-I’s official album A Love Supreme—which lacks only an appearance by Coltrane nephew Flying Lotus—glows with ambitious production by Ro Blvd and a pack of anthemic tracks (new single “Land Of Kings,” “My Life” and the instantly hooky “Hollywood Hiatus”) ably threatening a colossal near-future breakout.
