Spindrift

There’s one album where Spindrift are completely the psychedelic spaghetti-western band they’re popularly presumed to be—the soundtrack for their movie The Legend of God’s Gun, which recalls such mind-debriding Italian oaters as Django Live (If You Shoot, Kill!) and Matalo! in both music and mood. But they’re a high-powered live band with a wide selection of originals, too, and they apply a cinematic sense of dynamic to the supercharged sound of classic garage-rock bands like the Lollipop Shoppe, the Misunderstood and the Bull of the Woods-era 13th Floor Elevators. Pink Floyd and Can could pull the same sort of trick—movie music that doesn’t necessarily need the movie to be music.
